ATXM Downtown Vision Plan Advances to City Council

After years of work, our grand vision for a safer, more financially viable downtown for musicians advances to Council.

In February, Austin Texas Musicians Chief Executive Officer Pat Buchta, now serving as Downtown Commissioner (D6), worked alongside fellow Commissioners in the City of Austin 2026-2027 Budget Working Group to create Recommendations that include:

  • Free safe escort until 3am in partnership with Downtown Austin Alliance’s Block by Block Ambassadors

  • A study to explore free parking for musicians and service industry workers

  • A free Downtown “Green Room” Creative Hub, providing a safe, sober environment for musicians to gather before and after gigs

  • Reopening the Oasis homeless shelter

  • A shuttle service for musicians, service industry workers and patrons

The recommendation was passed unanimously by Downtown Commission in March.

As we work to gather Council support before the city budget is finalized in August, we will most certainly call upon the musicians we serve to show up in support of this groundbreaking Agenda Item.

Stay tuned!
