Musicians Advisory Panel (MAP)
Educate • Advocate • Inspire
Austin Texas Musicians 501c4 nonprofit incorporated in June of 2019 with one mission in mind: to serve as the trusted voice for Austin musicians. Since that time, we worked with music industry partners and city officials to secure the first-ever public funding for commercial music in the City of Austin. Now that our voice has been heard, we move into phase two of our organization with the selection of our Musicians Advisory Panel (MAP). MAP members were chosen from almost eighty applicants to represent Austin music genres, demographics and voting districts.
We are proud to announce our 2020 MAP members: Tje Austin, Paul Deemer, Brandon DeMaris, Frederico Di Mare, Cris Flores, Cristina Flores, Loulou O. Ghelichkhani, Aubrey Hays, Susanna Lee, Kathryn Legendre, Dave Madden, David Messier, Alex Marrero, Acey Monaro, Zack Morgan, Zach Person, Carrie Rodriguez, Rona Rougeheart, Collin Shook, Leslie Sisson, Azurah Stewart, Tom Van Schaik, and Graham Weber.
The MAP mission is threefold:
To Educate: MAP members complete a communication loop between city and state officials and the street level. As funding is disbursed, as programs are developed to support commercial music, and as new opportunities to improve the life and working conditions of musicians in Austin arise, MAP members will engage with their communities and educate them about policies that affect musicians.
To Advocate: MAP members will cultivate a spirit of advocacy within their genres by engaging communities in the political process. Austin musicians have THE largest political voice in this city, and as we saw in the defeat of Prop B on Nov. 5, it is indeed a powerful one. MAP members will listen and provide valuable feedback on the needs of musicians.
To Inspire: MAP members will serve our community with a heart for leadership, humility, and gratitude. MAP will seek opportunities to build bridges, tell the Austin Texas Musicians story, and help lift our city to be the worldwide leader in supporting the health of our music culture.
Austin Texas Musicians believes that we can build the kind of future we want for music, and we look forward to working with MAP to make this vision a reality in 2020 and beyond.
